The First Washington of Them All

Historic Washington Virginia is known as “the first Washington of them all”. The town itself was surveyed by George Washington in 1749. At age 17, George Washington designed the town's small urban plan and named all the streets. That same plan remains today in a charming historic village that is home to fine dining, theatres, galleries, lodging, and eclectic retail.

The White Moose Inn was originally built in 1837 as a manor house referred to as Heritage House. The original home was built by Henry Johnson for his new bride, Eliza Ann Grove. Over the years, Heritage House was home to tailors, weavers, artists, and Civil War soldiers. The building next door (now used as the Cottage) was originally constructed as an Ice House in the late 1800s.

In 2013, the property underwent renovations and reopened as The White Moose Inn with the intention of fusing modern luxury with the tranquility of Little Washington. The Cottage and more recently added Villas combine for a total of 8 rooms.
